The costs of fuel keep rising up on a daily basis but the people do not know where the oil comes from. The oil is used in a number of ways and the lack of it in a day will make business to stop and people to be scattered all over with no form of direction to follow. This is the major factor that companies the whole world. Just like food, one cannot leave without oil and even though we do not need to handle it ourselves it is used in the things that we do or use.

However, a lot of people might probably no idea where crude oil sources could be, apart from digging deep into land underground. Most of the oil is drilled in lots of places but most of it is drilled below the waters. Such process is commonly referred as Offshore Drilling . It is a very hard process to get to the core root of the sea but with lots of equipment and skill, the oil will be extracted. Getting to the seas seems to be the real hard but there are vessels called rigs that enable one to go to the sea and drill the oil out.

There are a number of factors that the company needs to keep in mind when they are choosing the required vessel. It needs to drill really deep to get the oil bed effectively. Offshore Drilling rigs need to be able to dig thru deep into the earth layer to reach oil reserve layer, unless the position of the oil us just beneath the surface, which is rarely be the case.

To get started, the company needs to analyst and find out the most probable location of the oil. This will then enable the company to get the best suitable drilling rig that is fit for the job. These days, most of the rigs have been built with sufficient space with accommodation for needed manpower on the rig itself.

Further, with advancing technology, oil rig builders have been able to build up gigantic rigs that are able to withstand the tough weather challenges, and rigs are able to be station permanently to drill out the oils. Crude Oil storage and transportation vessels too are to be well equipped with all the requirements to fit for the job. The oil is abstract and carefully kept in the storage and transportation vessel where it will not mix with other substances. A lot of care has to be taken care of when it comes to crude oil transportation , as we are well aware that oil leakage cause a slot of pollution in the water and this will kill the aquatic life.

For some location that are considered as near to the coast , they no longer require making countless trips to and from the sea. Refineries are built at coast area with oil pipe that transport their oil in its natural form right from drilling rig.

The solar energy or solar power as a source of electricity has already been in existence many centuries ago. Travelers during the early ages gather solar energy from the sun and the energy was locked up in some kind of a box, which they used as their electricity source to cook their food.

A lot of people are also using it, but they don’t really know that its solar energy that’s providing them electricity or light source.

Solar power is basically derived from the heat and light energy of the rays of the sun and they can be very useful at home or in any other places. Many scientists have revealed that the sun’s energy is not being maximized since only a very small portion of it is utilized by the entire humanity.

There are actually a lot of reasons to this observation. One is that many parts of Earth are seldom hit by the rays of the sun, and so there’s really no way they can accumulate solar energy for their electricity needs.

Another reason is that the majority of the people from third world countries cannot afford to buy solar panels and they think that artificial electricity is still much cheaper.

One of the several ways to accumulate solar energy is through the photovoltaic panels. These photovoltaic panels are capable of storing energy from the sun and converting it to electricity. This belongs under the active solar method. They are mostly used in portable devices like watches and calculators.

If there is an active solar method, there must also be a passive solar method. This passive solar method is another way of accumulating solar energy. The difference with the former method is that the solar energy gathered from the sun is not converted into electricity. One popular example is heating up water using the heat of the sun.

You may not be aware, but you actually are also consuming solar power in your home. Allowing the rays of the sun to enter and give light to your home is the simplest illustration of solar power. The use of solar heaters is also another benefit that we get from solar power.

The most popular among all solar power devices are the solar panels. This is another example of an active solar method that many people are already using these days. This solar-powered device can bring electricity to your home free of charge. However, this has a few disadvantages and one is that this cannot be used all year round as there are times when the sun is often hiding behind the clouds.

Everything in this world we live in has a purpose. Although the sun is millions of miles from us, it still serves a very important purpose like it can be an excellent source of electricity.

By using solar panels, you may be able to accumulate enough energy to give light to your home. What’s even more amazing about this is that it is friendly to the environment and it is non-pollutant as this does not emit any chemicals that can endanger the environment and also the health of the people.

Apart from being friendly to the environment, solar energy is also less costly than artificial electricity.

Here are the good effects of solar energy to the environment and to us human beings:

It is low-maintenance. If you have solar panels installed in your home, you do not need to spend a lot of money for its maintenance. All you need to do is to constantly monitor that it functions well.

It comes from a continuous and reliable source. Once you have installed solar panels, you will not have to worry about your power source, unless it’s gloomy or rainy. Solar panels are capable of storing solar energy that can be consumed for quite some time. Solar energy is very reliable in the sense that this will enable you to operate your appliances and other things that are run by electricity. You also do not have to deal with power interruptions.

It is economical. The installation of solar panels isn’t cheap and this may need you to cash out a big amount of money. You might think that this is not at all economical. Actually, this may only be felt after you have finished installing the solar panels and when you’re already utilizing it to give power to your home. After some time of using it, you will surely notice a big reduction on your electricity bills.

It is non-pollutant. Earth is seriously experiencing an environmental crisis and it is our responsibility as human beings to stop or to slow down the process. Unlike artificial electricity, solar energy does not emit any harmful chemicals such as mercury and carbon dioxide that has a bad effect on our environment and to mankind as a whole.

Solar panels have a lot of benefits not just to us, but also to our environment. Let’s do our share to protect and stop Earth from deteriorating fast by considering solar panels as our main source of electricity.

Most of us often complain about power interruption and high cost of electricity, but have you thought of an alternative that is just within your reach? Yes, there actually is a great alternative and this is the sun. The sun is packed with an amazing amount of solar energy that we all can use to provide us with our electricity needs.

We can benefit a lot from solar energy and some of these benefits include:

Solar energy can bring warmth to your home. If you want to further reduce your electric consumption, you can also make use of solar heaters that can keep you and your whole family warm all day.

Solar energy can generate electricity. Solar panels or generators that are capable of locking up solar energy can make your appliances work. They can also be your source of light during night time.

Solar energy can be used for cooking. Today, there are already a lot of cooking utensils that are solar-powered and its only power source is the heat of the sun. One example is the solar cooker wherein it can cook food that is enough for about half a dozen individuals. It does not only bring water or food to boil, but it can also be used for baking and roasting. The only thing that you have to practice while using a solar cooker is patience.

Solar energy generators are also known as solar panels that can convert solar energy into electricity. Solar energy generators are made up of cells or panels that attract energy from the sun. This is such a good source of electricity, but its high cost oftentimes is what’s causing many households to hold back. However, if you compute for the cost of the solar energy generators and your monthly electric bills, you can say that the device is highly economical.

The duration on the power coming from solar energy generators depends on your power consumption, but there is actually a way to conserve electricity that is derived from the sun; this is by illuminating your home using the rays of the sun. Open up your curtains to let the sunshine in or you can heat water under the sun.

Solar energy generators have many advantages, and they are as follows:

They are low-maintenance devices.

They can store solar energy for future use.

They are environment-friendly as it releases no destructive chemicals.

They are free since your source of electricity is the sun.

All individuals, whether young or old, contribute to global warming and in other environmental issues in either a minor or a major way. This is evident in our health condition and in our highly polluted environment.

Global warming is gradually clothing Mother Earth and this is the reason why lots of people are coming up with different campaigns to save our environment as well as the entire human race, and the most popular are the green movements.

Green movements are those that promote solar power. As a matter of fact, there are already quite a number of machines and homes that make use of solar power.

Aside from the environmental problems, another predicament that we’re all facing is the rise on the cost of electricity; this has triggered many people to think of ways to conserve electricity. One of the many ways that people have thought of is the use of solar energy as an alternative source of electricity.

Nowadays, you can already see many devices that can help us save electricity and money like the Solar Energy Generator, Wind Energy Generator, Magnetic Energy Generator, and many others. Among these energy generators, the solar energy generator is said to be the most effective alternative power source.

Solar energy generators are expensive, but they are jam packed with several benefits. Not everyone have enough money to purchase it, and so the government has thought of giving out rebates, incentives, credits and loans to those who are interested in installing solar energy generators on their homes.

Here are the several advantages of a solar energy generator:

It is totally free. This is probably the number one advantage of having a solar energy generator. You do not have to pay for the electricity that you’re provided with in your home and this means that you will be sparing yourself from paying high electricity bills.

It can give you continuous supply of electricity. Having a solar energy generator means that you do not anymore have to deal with blackouts or brownouts as long as it is able to store solar energy from the biggest and most generous power source, which is the sun.

It is widely available. Unless you live in a place where the sun is almost a stranger, you can make use of a solar energy generator. Whether you live in the middle of a forest, in a mountain top, or in an island, you’ll have no problem sourcing out solar energy. You do not even need long cables of electricity to light up your home.

Because our economy has gone bad and it seems is getting harder and harder to earn money these days, many people are thinking of various ways to cut down their monthly expenses, from food, clothing, gas and even in their consumption in electricity.

Your electric consumption could unknowingly takes a big slice of your monthly budget and if you cut down your consumption in electricity, you can really save a good amount of money monthly, and this can be allocated to your more important needs.

However, we all know that this is not as easy as it seems since almost all our things at home are powered by electricity. If it is impossible for you to reduce your electric consumption, maybe solar panels can be a big help to help you save money. With the use of solar panels, you can definitely have a bigger budget to work with and, at the same time, contribute a lot in saving our environment from further destruction.

Creating and Installing Solar Panels

If you’re already convinced to try solar panels to save money, maybe you want to know how you are going to install them. Maybe you’ve already heard that solar panels that are sold in the market are quite expensive, but you can actually create them on your own and enjoy such cheap energy option ( Cheap in sense sense that the hardware investment initially, but well, afterward it’s all free from the Sun ). The process of creation and installation of solar panels is not that complicated.

The first step is to gather all the things that you need to create them, which include a copper sheet, tap water, a large transparent plastic container, a sand paper and an electric stove. All these can be easily availed in hardware stores at very reasonable prices.

Another important thing that you need is an instruction guide that will show you how solar panels are done. You can get hold of an instruction manual for only about $50 on the Internet. You do not need to be a mechanical expert just to be able to create and install solar panels.

Most of us only know of the solar panels that are being sold in the market at high price, which many people can’t really afford to buy. What we don’t know is that there is actually a way to create solar panels without spending a huge amount of money. Your wish of reducing your monthly electric bills, and not necessarily your consumption, can now be granted with the use of do-it-yourself solar panels.

Countries Begin to Explore their Energy Options

Rather late in the day some countries are beginning to develop energy policies in line with the needs that have been identified nationally. Typically these policies will focus on the need to maintain the citizens within a comfortable bubble so that they can continue to vote in the same governments over and over again.

Those who try to offer an alternative energy policy are shut down as being anti business. In fact many of the green parties have some wonderful ideas about energy policy but they have been effectively shut down by the presence of the right wing lobby which closes its eyes to the plight of those people who are unable to access rich energy sources.

There is some secrecy about the energy policies of certain countries because they are unethical or hurt the political and imperial ambitions of those nations. Thus when wars are ostensibly staged to bring peace yet the underlying issue is the access to the oil reserves; one loses confidence in the whole energy policy debate. It has become nothing more than a smokescreen for naked imperialistic ambitions and glory hunting. Those who point out this trend are shut down as being unpatriotic or somehow naive in their assumptions about the machinations of their governments.

Going Beyond Good Intentions

The debate at the moment is not so much about the existing energy policies but rather an acknowledgement that many governments have never had a policy in the first place. They relied on the ability to manage the crisis as they come about without looking at the long term future of their nations. The case of Ukraine is telling because energy for them has become a ransom for a powerful neighbor. The neighbor is able to switch the energy on and off depending on the relationship at the time. The relationship must cause alarm for those countries which do not have sufficient energy reserves. They will have to subjugate themselves to the energy suppliers in order to get any relief from the drought of energy resources.

In discussing the energy policies one must not forget the role of the consumers in creating demand for energy. If people do not take ownership and responsibility for the issues that happen to them in the energy cycle, then they will place additional burdens on their governments to deliver alternative energy sources. The development of an effective energy policy has to come from the people themselves rather than relying on the services of other government agencies to implement what is considered to be good practice. If both the governments and the individuals concerned understand the implications of their energy policies, it will make the planet a safer planet.

The creation of an energy policy involves rather more than mere sound bites and pontifications. It requires that the leaders do their work and inspire the rest of the community to join the battle for energy efficiency. The battle can be won and must be won in order to secure the future of the earth.

Energy as an Environmental Issue

The protection of the environment has become a priority for many national governments due to the influence of various pressure groups and the commitments that have be given out to the general public in terms of enforcing responsible government whenever possible. The ability to use the planet in a responsible manner is no longer the preserve of a fringe of campaigners who have spent a lifetime trying to convince the general public that it is not prudent or responsible to waste all the resources that are due to go to the future generations.

Some nations are addicted to the use of energy in all its forms. For example they will buy cars that are not energy efficient and which put an additional burden on the oil resources that the country may be able to access in the long run. They also mean that the use of oil has an impact on the disposable income that is available to the nation in terms of building economic growth. There are also other benefits in terms of reducing the impact on the state which has to subsidize those citizens who are unable to afford the essential things in life.

It therefore seems that the protection of the environment has to necessarily be tied up with the energy policy of a country. There are many leaflets that tell the community about the various energy saving systems that are available to them in the short term and which can improve the standing of the economy if done on a consistent basis.

Balancing Energy Policy

One of the things that are very worrying is that there are vast sways of political persuasion which refuses to acknowledge the impact of human activity on the environment. Their mantra is to spend and spend until they get their fill. For some people this is an unacceptable use of resources and does not foster the type of responsibility that is crucial for the economic development of the nation. However it must be remembered that these conservative voices have been on the wrong side of history when it comes to different elements of the histories of the world. It then seems that they will continue this pattern when it comes to energy policy.

An effective environmental protection policy also has to consider the fact that the nation has a real need for energy in order to foster economic development. This is the type of commitment that has build economies over time and ensured prosperity for the Western world. It would then appear to be entirely counterproductive if the powers that be decided to stop the use of energy for economic development. Environmental issues are important but they cannot be more important than the duty to maintain a certain minimum living standard for the general population. The failure to plan for the energy needs of the community has brought the nations into the situation of global warming. At the same time they cannot afford to go back to being the underdeveloped economies of the past.

Cooling Down on Proliferation

Although politics and a hint or racism is at the heart of the Iranian conflict with some Western powers at the behest of Israel, it seems that energy could be one of the issues that drive this relationship. According to Iran they would like to become a recognized nuclear power because they use the power for energy purposes.

The veracity of these claims is rather shaky given the reputation that Iran has built over the years in terms of ratcheting up the pressure and refusing to comply with the instructions that are being imposed on it. However nuclear power can be an interesting source of energy.

Rather than fighting one another both Israel and Iran might decide to have some sort of energy creation system that would feed the entire Middle East. The dependence on oil is already crippling some economies in terms of their income and the ability to implement an independent foreign policy. That is why the use of nuclear power as a source of energy is quite attractive. Traditionally the nuclear power has been associated with the sinister motives of developed countries but now there is an avenue to rescue it into modern economic life.

Making Money not War

The use of nuclear power for energy purposes is both practical and ethical because it taps into the natural resources that a country has and then matches them to the need within the country which creates a perfect balance for economic development. It also turns nuclear energy away from the sinister motives of weapon manufacture. That way those people who have been campaigning for the voluntary reduction of nuclear weapons within the world will get their wish and there will be plenty of energy for other developmental purposes.

The one thing that tends to derail any efforts at bringing the nuclear question to a halt is the presence or absence of political will. The issue with political will is that most countries have been frightened into believing that when they stop gathering weapons, their opponents will successfully attack their nations. In fact certain nations freely admit that the residual nuclear weapons that they have are all for the purposes of acting as a deterrent.

The upkeep of nuclear weapons is very expensive and has left some wondering whether it is really worth it to continue to keep those systems when there has been no major attack in so many years. The proponents of nuclear weapons then counter by saying that the mere fact that there has not been an attack is proof that the deterrent is working and must never be removed. The debate will continue to rage on depending on which side of the arguments the reader has chosen to fall on. The bottom line is that the problems that are related to the energy industry and nuclear power will not go away and each super power has to come up with a strategy to reduce its output. If the funds happen go into making energy then it will be a win for the economy.

Conserving Energy

A number of communities have come up with interesting methods of preserving the little energy that they have and ensuring that their children have a bright and prosperous future. The conservation of energy is not limited as a responsibility but covers the entirety of human existence and practice in an effort to reduce the impact on the environment.

It also avoids the natural wastage that happens when people are not well informed about the impact of their actions on the energy consumption levels. In order to achieve balance some governments have let the people use the energy as they see fit but have place in some controls which are meant to prevent the over exploitation of natural resources.

When one is looking at the usage of energy within the home it becomes clear that there is something very wrong with the attitudes of the majority of the population to the reality of energy policy. Some people are quite happy to leave the lights on all night just because they can afford it. In an effort to highlight the ethical implications of such attitudes, various governments have come up with schemes that target specific energy uses. This is done with the express aim of getting them to acknowledge their responsibilities to the general community and their abilities to deal with the realities of the modern environment.

Energy Efficient World

Dealing with energy conservation measures does not have to be limited to big government initiatives. There are great examples of various people who have successfully reduced their impact on the environment through common sense approaches to living in the modern age. Government legislation and initiatives should be the last refuge of those who wish to implement energy efficiency policies on a national basis. Living in a family home is all about compromise and therefore there can be some compromise when it comes to the usage of energy. There is no reason to leave the light bulbs on when no one is working at home. Likewise it seems a waste of energy to boil water when no one is going to use it.

If more and more families buy into the principles of energy efficiencies some of the difficult energy problems that the world is facing can be resolved in a relatively short space of time. However if we continue to insist on laying the blame for energy efficiency problems at the doorstep of the government the problems that we face will never end and it is likely that the environment will punish us for this. The great thing is that the younger generation has started to take notice and it is insisting that the older generation stops ignoring the situation. This is a welcome development that can only lead to great results for the world community at large.

With the better use of energy the world can look forward to a time when people will only use items for the purpose for which they were intended. They will also use those items in a socially responsible manner.

Democratizing Energy Resources

One of the key battle grounds for all nations in the future will be the use of energy resources. As the world population continues to grow beyond the resource base that is available at the moment, it has become clear that some measures will have to be taken to restore the balance of resources and human need. These resources come from a variety of indicators including the natural resources. Politicians are not talking about energy independence as if the world is on the verge of ending. The process of moving towards energy independence might involve the forceful acquisition of assets that belong to other countries we have seen some of the resultant chaos in Iraq.

On the other hand it would appear to be unsustainable that some countries are relying on their natural resources to hold the world on ransom. Energy is an essential item for those countries that lie within the colder areas of the world. If no effort is made to democratize the energy sources for them one can safely say that they will be in a great deal of trouble.

Revolutions have been implemented on the basis of energy needs. When the winter hits, the elderly start to die if they do not have an adequate energy source. This then becomes a heated national security issue that can lead the different parties into outright war with one another.

Energy in a Global Village

The United Nations Organization does not seem to have a unified strategy for dealing with the issues of resources. Rather they rely on local agreements to settle individual disputes between countries. It is only in the recent wake of the climate change disasters that serious consideration is being given to the implications of the policies of the big powers in relation to energy usage. As it appears that the Middle East will not let go of its oil so easily, the problem of energy reserves will have to be dealt with from the perspective of a domestic strategy.

Whole economies will depend on the ability to mobilize the energy resources if they are going to survive into the future. The principle of the survival of the fittest will have to test the nations seriously. There is talk of alternative energy sources but the arguments are not particularly convincing and the target market is not particularly enthusiastic. Moreover the costs of modern technology are so high that many people wonder whether they can be delivered to the majority of the human race.

Those who have a social conscience outside their self interest recognize the dire straits that the human race finds itself in when we talk of energy resources. There are choices to be made if the politicians can get off their pulpits and get working. For example we might decide to use the energy resources that we have and hope for the best. Alternatively we might try to conserve until the reserves run out. The other solution is to find new sources of energy.

Renewable energy, defined as resources that are naturally replenished, include wind, rain, sunlight, water currents and geothermal heat. Our modern day renewable energy techniques may have been introduced much earlier in time than some would think. For instance, did you realize that the first wind turbine to generate electricity was built in 1888?

History dates back watermills to 2,000 years ago and windmills to over 1,000 years ago. But back then, these machines were used for their mechanical output in jobs such as grinding grain and textile production. This was well before our discovery of modern electricity usage.

First in Hydropower
The first hydropower plant to generate electricity was built in 1882 in Appleton, Wisconsin. It produced 12.5 kW of power, not very much by today’s standards but enough to power the machinery in two paper mills and a private home.

First in Windpower

As previously stated, the first wind turbine electricity producer was the 1888 wind turbine built by Charles Brush in Cleveland, Ohio. This 80,000 pound monster stood 60 feet high and had a diameter of 56 feet. This wind turbine produced 12 kW of power, nearly the same output as the Appleton hydroplant. It was used to charge batteries in the cellar of Brush’s mansion for 20 years. To understand how large the wind turbine was, find the man cutting the grass to the right of it.

First in Solar Energy

The first solar cell was built by Charles Fritts in 1883, but it only had an efficiency of around 1%. Modern solar panel technology made its arrival in 1954 thanks to three inventors from Bell Laboratories. By 1955 a telephone carrier began using solar panels for energy and in 1958 the U.S. satellite Vanguard 1 was launched into space equipped with solar panels.

First in Geothermal Energy

The first commercial geothermal power plant was built in 1911 in Larderello, Italy. This plant was the only producer of geothermal electricity until New Zealand built a plant in 1958. In 1960, the first U.S. geothermal plant was built at The Geysers in California.

In certain cases, some renewable energies have been around for over 100 years! Of course there have been many beneficial improvements along the way and there will be many more improvements to come.

Wind turbines, a rapidly growing sector of electricity generation, produce varied amounts of electricity based on a few variables. These variables include the size of the wind turbine, also known as power rating, and how fast the wind travels at the turbine’s location.

Wind turbines have a power rating usually ranging from 250 watts (enough to charge a battery) to 10-kW (enough to power a typical household) to 6-MW (enough to power over 1600 households).

The world’s largest wind turbines, produced in Northern Germany, stand at a height of 650 ft and has a diameter of 413 ft. The world’s largest wind farm is located in Texas at the Horse Hollow Wind Energy Center. This wind farm has 421 wind turbines which produce enough energy to power 220,000 homes per year. In 2006, wind energy produced enough electricity in the U.S. to serve more than 2.4 million households. Although this is a fairly large number of households, it is only about 0.4 percent of the nation’s total electricity consumption.

Wind energy is growing rapidly in the United States as well as other parts of the world. From 2002 to 2006 wind-generated electricity increased by 2.5 times.
